Build and maintain a Brand Soul

A Brand Soul is the workspace identity document BlendDuck uses when assisting with content. It keeps human and AI-assisted drafts anchored to the same brand voice. Each workspace has its own Brand Soul, so agencies and multi-brand teams can keep context separate.
Prepare the source material
Before generating one, collect concise answers to these questions:
- Who does the workspace represent, and what does it offer?
- Who is the primary audience, and what problem are they trying to solve?
- What should readers understand or do after seeing the content?
- Which three to five voice traits describe the brand?
- Which claims, topics, phrases, or tones must never be used?
- Which product names, spellings, and calls to action are canonical?
Specific examples produce a more useful identity than adjectives alone. “Explain technical trade-offs in plain language and name limitations” is more actionable than “sound trustworthy.”
Create the Brand Soul
- Open Dashboard → Brand Soul.
- Choose Create Brand Soul.
- Describe the company, audience, positioning, voice, and guardrails in the prompt. Include examples of language to use or avoid.
- Choose Generate Brand Soul.
- Continue in the guided conversation, then review the generated identity document before relying on it for customer-facing content.
You can also add an initial Brand Soul while creating a workspace. It is optional, and you can expand it later.
A useful starter prompt
We help independent restaurants publish weekly social content.
Audience: owners with little time and no dedicated marketing team.
Voice: practical, warm, concise, and specific. Use plain language.
Positioning: reliable weekly execution, not viral growth promises.
Always: give one clear next action and preserve supplied prices and dates.
Never: invent customer results, use hype, or describe food as “guilt-free.”
Preferred CTA: “Plan next week’s posts.”
Do not put passwords, API keys, private customer data, embargoed information, or unsupported claims in a Brand Soul.
Edit without losing intent
Open Dashboard → Brand Soul → Edit Brand Soul and describe the change. Make one focused update at a time, for example:
- add a prohibited claim or phrase;
- change the primary audience;
- define a product-name spelling;
- make the tone more direct for LinkedIn while preserving the core voice;
- add an escalation rule for regulated or sensitive topics.
After an important edit, generate a draft for two different channels. Verify that the facts remain correct, the tone is recognizable, and channel-specific customization does not override a non-negotiable guardrail.
Brand Soul versus Knowledge Base
Use Brand Soul for how the workspace should communicate: identity, audience, positioning, voice, terminology, and boundaries. Use the Knowledge Base for what it knows: product facts, policies, research, FAQs, and source documents.
When sources conflict, update or remove the stale Knowledge Base document and state the governing rule clearly in the Brand Soul. Human review remains required for legal, medical, financial, safety-critical, or otherwise high-impact claims.
