X rewards clarity, speed, and conversation, but fast publishing should not mean untraceable publishing. The safest operating model starts with one claim, one intended audience response, and one approved version. Format comes after the idea is clear.
Current BlendDuck publishing contract
A standard X post supports up to 280 weighted characters. It may contain up to four images or one video; image and video media cannot be mixed. Video must be 140 seconds or shorter in the current product contract. Threads are supported, as are hashtags and per-channel settings.
BlendDuck also carries an AI-generated media disclosure, a reply-audience setting, and an optional X Community URL. A Community URL must use the X community address format. Availability can still depend on the connected account and provider permissions.
Treat the character counter as a publishing check, not a writing target. Links, emoji, and some Unicode sequences can count differently from a simple JavaScript string length, so leave a small margin when a post is close to the limit.
Choose a single post or a thread
Use one post when the argument can be understood without setup: a specific observation, a useful result, a question, or a concise launch statement. Use a thread when the reader needs sequence, evidence, examples, or a method.
A useful thread structure is:
- State the tension or result in the first post.
- Explain why it matters to the intended reader.
- Add evidence, examples, or steps in separate replies.
- End with a conclusion or next action, not a repeated hook.
Every reply should add information. If removing a reply does not change the argument, cut it. Keep sources close to the claim they support, and do not let the call to action replace the actual lesson.
Design the opening and media
Strong openings are specific. Replace “Here are some tips” with an observable problem, a counterintuitive result, a clear promise, or a well-scoped opinion. Avoid manufacturing certainty: name the sample, time period, or condition when the claim depends on context.
Images should make the idea easier to inspect. A four-image set needs a deliberate order because users may encounter it without reading every line first. For video, place the main point early, add captions when speech matters, and verify rights for music, footage, screenshots, and quoted posts.
Use AI disclosure when attached media was generated or materially altered in a way that requires transparency. Disclosure is part of the publishing record, not a substitute for rights review or factual verification.
Approval and publishing preflight
Before scheduling, confirm the connected identity, destination, approved text, media order, sources, mentions, links, reply audience, disclosure, timezone, and campaign dependency. If publishing to a Community, verify the exact Community URL and membership conditions.
Preserve the approved version identifier. If the text, link, creative, disclosure, or destination changes afterward, decide whether the approval is still valid instead of silently publishing a new version.
After sending, distinguish accepted, processing, live, failed, and unknown states. Save the live URL and inspect the rendered post. Retry only after checking provider status; a blind retry can create a duplicate.
Measurement and iteration
Choose a metric that matches the job of the post. Replies may matter for a research question, qualified clicks for a resource, and profile visits for an expertise post. Compare similar formats and objectives over a defined window.
Record the opening pattern, topic, media type, posting condition, result, and next test. “Post more threads” is not a learning. “Test two evidence-led openings against two opinion-led openings for the same topic family” is an executable next step.
